We’re official – just put the post in the C#2 forum. Hope that was the correct spot.
One thing I will need is something like a mission statement or press release? If you have a draft, I’d be glad to help you polish it if you’d like. I found a ton of links/addresses/emails to some good publicity, so if you can draft something of that sort, I can push it out to the world (or the US, at least). I’d also like to use an official press release as a bartering chip for a web hosting company…perhaps to lease the needed webspace and domain name at a reduced amount – those can be about $70/yr. I think it is really important to have an easily remembered web site name to help with PR… adds a little credibility.
One other thing I though of… what if the riders went to their local dealerships, Relay for Life events, TV stations, local newspapers etc and solicited attention in their hometowns? Try to start a mileage pledge/sponsorship for donations. Does the BCF provide donation forms, fliers, etc? Do they have something that is a receipt for donors that we can give for tax purposes (I know BCF is a 503c non-profit)? http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=131942
OK… last idea for this email, then I’ll shutup: what about offering a Pink Ribbon Conga patch, for a donation of $25. I found a place near me in Cleveland that makes patches for such occasions. http://customlogofactory.com/embroidered-patch-prices.html Their prices are really reasonable, and I think the idea of a lousy patch would be a good donation promoter for folks. Let me know.
I know, you’re probably wondering why the hell I’ve taken such interest in the ride. I have to say I’ve been using this cause as a way to channel my anxiety for my own test results. My last pap test came back abnormal, and I’ve been really on edge since – Conga has kept my mind occupied, especially since I’ve been ‘laid off’. I had previously been really active with our Relay for Life teams since 2004, but Conga now combines my hobby and my cause. Next test isn’t until the end of next month, so we’ll see. No matter the outcome, though, I want to see the Conga become a huge success, and although it isn’t breast health, I’m personally vested.
Now I need to shutup and go to bed! ;-)
It can't be THAT difficult! Can it????
